Subject: Diesel Question...
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

Short question to a Diesel expert... :o))

I own a 1982 westy with a 1.6 TD conversion. There is no leaks and the compression is abour 450-475 for all cylinders. The oil consumtion is about 1 quart per 250 miles. I brought it to my mechanic and he told me that the thermostat was keeping the engine running too cold. Causing this high oil consumption. Probably a wrong thermostat. He ran it for about 150 miles (He's a friend of mine :o), changed the termostat to make it run hotter and made another 350 miles. After all that mileage (500 miles), it added about half a quart of oil... Does this too cold engine stuff makes sense?
