Discs were standard on 1966-on 1500 and 1600 engined Beetles, option (replacing drums) on the 1200s and 1300s. Same goes for the 1302 and 1303 models (also known as the Superbeetle), those with 1300 cc engine had drums, the S models (1600 engine) had discs.
