That's a safety feature :) .... its much better than having a high wind rip the awning off its attachments to the gutter (or the gutter off :)

Actually, I camp mostly out in the desert... the Four Corners area in the spring... typically there is so much wind you wouldn't want any kind of awning up... too noisy and too hard on the awning... in fact when it's like that I don't even put the top up! All in all I have found awnings to be pretty much useless out there in the spring.

Been there, done that. Also, if you're setting >up the awning on pavement

Personally, I don't camp on pavement... or campgrounds for that matter :)

Not debating here... just giving some perspective on awning use and appropriateness.... they're not for everyone.
