As someone mentioned before, during the last "nomenclature thread" "L" means "Lovin' if it were a "GL" it would mean "Good Lovin' . it's almost friday... ;<)

(on a more serious note - "L" designated the fully equipped westy. the "GL" superceded the "L" in '84. (the "GL" nomenclature was not used before '84) Also "Lime green" wasnt a factory color. Escatorial green was. look in your doorjambs, you can tell if your van was repainted.)
