Subject: A Good Deal on Highway Tires!
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

Volks -

When I looked at my highway tires in preparation for mounting them in place of the snows, I realised that they weren't going to give me another summer.

I checked around, and found that Les Schwab, a western US tire dealer, had a Kumho brand tire (made in Korea) that sounded interesting for only 39.95.

When I went to look, I found that they were better than I had expected. Load range C, with a rating number of 102, which is better than the Vanagon recommended spec of 97. These will carry 1875 per tire at 54 PSI.

Not a bad tread design, either, for a highway tire. Four ribs, fairly tight on the shoulders but open in the middle. I wouldn't want to drive them in the snow, but they should handle rain just fine, and I have four snow tires.

The total price, mounted, balanced with new valve stems was $101.40 plus tax for the pair! That price is good through the end of April.

I ran a pair of Load Range D Kumhos on my 83.5 Westy for several years, and found they were quite acceptable, but I like the tread design on these better.

If you aren't in the Western US, it still might be worth checking to see if anyone locally carries them.
