Subject: 1986 GL won't start

I have a 1986 Vanagon GL (well, actually, 3 1986 Vanagon GLs but one is for parts now) that won't start. I drove onto our driveway about two weeks ago, turned off the ignition, and it hasn't started since. I've replaced the starter and fuel pump (they were pretty old anyway) but that didn't make any apparent difference. I've loosened and cleaned all of the grounds that I could find. All of the fuses seem ok. I've checked the things you can check at the ECU (temperature coolant sensor, etc.) and everything checked out ok. Spark plug wires, distributor rotor, coil all pass the multimeter tests.

Wierd clue: the "buzzer" that goes on when the key is in the ignition and a door is open (actually, none of mine buzz, they all play something that sounds like the start of "La Cucuracha") makes a noise like the engine turning over when I try to start the Van (by turning the key past "on").

Any suggestions??? Thanks all.

Chris (Free Union, VA)
