Interesting...

Start with a truck or van. It leaves the factory "new" and "perfect" (well, nearly so..) and the first person to drive it would probably be a little careful with it. As soon as the term "work" gets put in front of it, it becomes a "work van" or a "work truck" and all concern for the vehicle's well-being seems to get tossed aside. We have many work vehicles where I work, and while the amount of care for these vehicles varies from group to group, they are indeed "work" vehicles, seldom getting washed even though there is an automatic wash in the motor pool, service is done on a somewhat stretched schedule (and I'm being generous), and problems are dealt with when necessary. These vehicles are not ones I'd be fond of seeing in my driveway. Like Per said, concern for them seems to be nonexistent.
