It's time for my 89 Westy to get new pads and rotors up front. I've done disk brakes on other vehicles, so I'm comfortable with it until looking at the Bentley before starting the job. It says to replace the bolts on the caliper with new bolts. Now I understand replacing seals and bearings, and the castle too because you bend it after installation. But why the calipers' bolts ? Is this really necessary and commonly done by experienced Vanagon owners ? Or do most reuse them unless they look worn or stripped ? Bus Depot doesn't advertise them in their web catalog, so I presume it's not a commonly replaced part. I would hate to pay the dealer price for an unnecessary item. |
