The only problem with this theory is that the 1.9l coolant system is closer do finding itself on VW's obsolete parts list. I have been warning you folks about this problem. If you have a 1.9l Vanagon and you have never replaced the hoses, now is the time to do it. In the next couple of years, I believe, we are going to see these hoses added to the "No longer available" list. The some diesel Vanagon hoses are already finding their way on this list, and also some of the 83.5 waterboxer hoses. The 1.9l hoses are soon to follow.

The other nice thing about the 2.1l hoses (besides availability) is that the ones in the engine compartment are relatively cheap to replace. You could replace all of the hoses in the engine compartment (these little, short hoses are usually the ones that fail anyway) for just over $100.

This is the reason I set up my coolant hose charts, etc, to help folks get hoses for their vans as a part of very smart preventive maintenance. I am getting a stack of toasted 1.9l engines here because people let their coolant hoses go one more year before replacing. I have these hoses in stock, ready to ship. I had several list members thank me for setting up these charts and promising that as soon as Spring came that they were going to order their set of hoses. Guess what folks, its spring! So far I have only had two or three list members buy complete hose kits for the 1.9l and only one for the 2.1l engine. That means there are alot of you out there who are due. Don't put it off! <Preaching mode off>
