List,

After just putting a new exhaust crossover, etc on, and reconnected the EGR
filter. I seem to have alot of oil driping from every available spot. Also
when I attempt to pull the oil dip stick to check the oil level it is very
hard to get out and it has what looks like rusty water droplets on it.  There
is a lot of foamy white stuff in the oil filler also.

This Vanagon is an 1981 with an Air Cooled engine. Where can all this
moisture be coming from?

I did a compression check on the engine about a month ago and each cylinder
read about 125 psi, but #3 would bleed down after a couple of seconds, I
repeated the test with a tablespoon of oil in the cylinders and they all read
about 3 psi higher and #3 bleed down alot slower.

Are all these signs of a ring problem with Number 3.  A local Mechanic said
possibly the rings could have seized up on that cylinder?  Can they be freed
up with a chemical treatment of some kind?

Or is it Motor time again?  This engine has about 50k on the rebuild.  Could
it be a valve seat problem?
