Sean,

Your idea is a little elaborate for me, but very imaginative. I fear it would also be expensive. I'm also disinclined to remove the existing luggage rack because when the van is not being used for long trips, the luggage rack matches the poptop and looks perfect just the way it is.

Besides which, the syncro needs a second spare tire and I don't think it would fit in the drawer. I've been looking for a spare tire keeper to add on and they are quite expensive (more than the estimated cost of this lid). Also, I would have to choose between the spare tire keeper and a storage box on the rear end. My, my. Home improvement is always complicated, isn't it?

What I'm looking for is simplicity, but secure space.
