1.9TD, 2L gas, 1.8T, VR6, 2.2 or 2.5L Subaru. >3.2L Porsche 6 (mmmmmm - my mechanic has a 3.6 turbo and C2 5-speed >available... who needs AWD?). So many choices, so many compromises. I would suggest a Subaru SVX; it puts out more power than a similar-sized Porsche, will be at least as reliable, relatively cheap to fix (though they don't generally go wrong) and you can still have a heater. There are 6 or 7 SVX wrecks listed on www.copartfinder.com.

I am in the process of finding bits for my own SVX conversion.
