Subject: Driving report - STEBRO Stainless muffler

Finally had the chance to put on and drive our Westy with the new STEBRO stainless muffler that I got through Frank Condelli (thanks Frank!).

As Mark McCulley described previously, the muffler arrived quite well packed and totally unscathed from Canada.

Really well made muffler, with beautiful welds. and integral brackets (no more rusting expensive muffler clamps!). Very sturdy, but not dramatically heavier than the stock muffler.

Everything fit perfectly the first time, but the brackets are constructed with a "U" bend in them so they would easily accommodate substantial variations on mounting point dimensions, should you need it.

Just ran the van on a long trip (Mass to Virginia), and the muffler remained quiet, in place, etc. The sound is quite similar to the stock muffler, certainly not any louder.

Only funny thing is that the tailpipe and entry pipes seem to be made out of non-stainless or a different kind of stainless, and got a slight rusty color after the trip.

Don't know whether they are simply another SS alloy or not. (Frank?)
