Ron,

It's not a good idea to just connect the two hoses as this will bypass the
radiator and route hot coolant back to the engine. The heater you pulled out
has a flow restrictor to limit the flow through the heater when the valve is
opened. When the valve is closed of course, no coolant flows through this
circuit at all.

I would recommend plugging the two hoses instead of connecting them. Perhaps
you can plug them in the engine compartment and get rid of the hoses under
the rear seat.
