While it does not really qualify as "getting me out of a jam" a few years ago my wife and I were passing through northern Georgia when we spotted an unattended brush fire in the wide median likely started by some idiot tossing a cigarette butt out the window. We called on channel 9 trying to raise someone but got no reply. Lacking a better idea we broadcast in the blind, "Fire in the meadian on 95 southbound mile marker XX, anyone who hears call the police." Several minutes later a cop showed up. He said he got the word from a trucker who heard me and relayed to him. Don't know if the area had cell coverage or not but it shows that the CB CAN work.

I'm heading off to a rather remote location for a weekend camping trip and I began to ponder communications. In case "Happy" gets unhappy, should I add a CB to the glovebox? I already have a national-coverage cell phone, but rural Utah is, well... rural. Has anyone gotten out of a jam using a CB where no cell coverage was available? Seems like fairly cheap insurance.
