Your oil is too light for typical non-arctic zones. I run 20W50 in my '87 pretty much all year 'round in Pennsylvania. Also, you should be using a Mann or Mahle filter, not Fram or some junk like that. Read more about the dynamic oil pressure system on vanagon.com under 'problems.' -Karl
