With all of the recent talk on Trans. problems, I figured I would throw mine out there. I have an 85 Westy 4 speed, the transmission grinds going into 3rd gear from second. Once in gear it stays in gear and doesn't seem hard to shift. If I let the RPM's drop when shifting from second to third then it will go in without grinding. Since my knowledge of transmission is not that great, I am looking for advice. The van has 120,xxx on the clock, I assume that the transmission has not been rebuilt since I am the second owner and the PO didn't mention anything about it. I also have not had the chance to change the gear lube in it. I am a little reluctant to drain it and fill it back up for fear of what I might find. I am sort of assuming that it is a syncro in the transmission, is this a good starting guess? Like I said any advice, will be appreciated. TIA Ryan |
