Is this right, Alan? I'm don't know about later Vanagons, but on earlier ones, the glove box key is completely different. The ignition key cannot be used to open the glovebox. Is this a feature for late model Vanagons?? Z

<<<snip>>> 1. This key, which I thought to be a "master key" will not lock the glove box. Does anyone know why? <<<snip>>> What you think is the "master" key is, in fact, what's know as a Valet key. This being the key you would give to someone parking you vehicle (bus), rather than the key you use every day. The idea is that you can put valuables - camera, radio, tools, marital aids, etc. - into the glove box, away from prying eyes, lock the box with the ignition key, hand the valet another key, and they would not have access to the glove box or your valuables. 'Course, they have access to the bus and rather than just steal your valuables, they can steal the whole bus, but that's a minor point at best.
