I am dealing with the same problem, and mine is due to a slight miss at all speeds, idle to whatever. This is generally caused by a lean mixture if the engine and ignition system are in good condition, which mine are. Check your plugs, cap, rotor, and wires first. If they are okay look for a vacuum leak and then move on to the fuel injection system. You can hear or feel the miss if this is your problem. You can throw parts at it like I am (I have lots of spares) or take it in to a good VW shop, but expect to shell out some bucks either way. As of today I have not fixed it. I am down to injectors or fuel pressure regulator as the culprit, neither of which I have checked yet.
