I picked up the cheaper Bosch O2 sensor last year & had a go at splicing it onto the old connector & cable. It was a success but it was a major pain trying to tin the wires before soldering. Apparently the wires aren't copper & it took a major amount of heat to get them tinned. If I was doing it again, I'd go for the crimp & heat-shrink option ....
