Subject: No Vanagon content: BMW 740 with cracked oil pan
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Hi Volks:

Sorry for the intrusion - but you guys may know about this.

There's a rebuildable 1994 BMW 740i here, that is so lightly damaged - there must be something seriously wrong mechanically.

It has the front fascia busted, the airbags blown, and the windshield smashed. And a cracked oil pan. It's for sale for $11,400. The headlights aren't even cracked.

This is a prime car - totally flawless otherwise, full leather, CD, BMW carphone etc. Fat alloys, great tires. An $80,000 CDN car (new).

I am assuming that the engine has a major problem, due to the oil pan being cracked - maybe seized up?

We are not to try starting it to find out for sure - their orders.

Under the hood, it looks like it just came from the factory, naturally clean as a whistle. Nothing bent or dirty.

Here's the question: if it has seized, does that mean it cannot be fixed - or that it is "way expensive" to fix it? Basically, what are the consequences of a seized motor?

I apologize for the newbie questions - but I was really impressed with this car.
