I understand the valet key idea. In fact VW has gone one further in the new ones and won't let you in the glove box or the trunk with the mechanics key/valet key. My question is, was this an option for our buses. I am in the process of getting everything I own to one key. My Jetta is on one key (factory). My bug is on one key. My house is one key (from a hand full when I bought it, not one lock or dead-bolt was the same. It took four different keys to get in the front porch and then the front door of the house and that's assuming the screen door was unlocked, but the lady also had those keys on her just in case). My bus has one key for the doors and ignition(down from two), one for the glove box and one for the gas cap. Can I get this to one key? Is the locking gas cap original? I can live with three keys for the bus, but two or even one would be nice. I guess I could not carry the glove box key. So was there a valet key and a real key for our buses? If there was VW might have been ahead of the times again on this issue.

Any help would be appreciated and make me that much lighter, atleast in the pocket and not the pocketbook.

TIA Ryan

PS my boss has me beat, he carry's his Audi key (no ring) and the house key is his garage door opener in the car. Maybe not the safest way, but makes him lighter then me.

<<<snip>>> 1. This key, which I thought to be a "master key" will not lock the glove box. Does anyone know why? <<<snip>>>

What you think is the "master" key is, in fact, what's know as a Valet key. This being the key you would give to someone parking you vehicle (bus), rather than the key you use every day. The idea is that you can put valuables - camera, radio, tools, marital aids, etc. - into the glove box, away from prying eyes, lock the box with the ignition key, hand the valet another key, and they would not have access to the glove box or your valuables. 'Course, they have access to the bus and rather than just steal your valuables, they can steal the whole bus, but that's a minor point at best.
