Believe it or not, the good folks at L-Soft International (the company that makes Gerry's list server software) have already anticipated your desires. You can tell the list server to add the list name to the front of the subject line of any messages it sends to you.

To do this, send a one-line message saying:

set vanagon subj

to the list server's "command" address, which is listserv@gerry.vanagon.com. (This is NOT the same as the "post" address, which is vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com.)

Then, the subjects of messages you receive from the list will look like this:

[VANAGON] Universal agreement reached on best tires [VANAGON] My fridge is too cold on 12V [VANAGON] How to remove unneeded cup holders from your van Re: [VANAGON] My fridge is too cold on 12V

Apparently Gerry recognizes subjects that start with "Re:", and puts the list name after the "Re:", presumably as an aid to mail readers that ignore "Re:" when they sort by subject.

If you want to return to the style of subject lines you've probably been using by default, without the list name, send the command:

set vanagon full

If you would like a concise list of all the other commands you can issue to the list server, then send the command:

info refcard
