A Vanagon is more stable than ANY SUV out there, excepting perhaps the Mercedes. A VAnagon's suspension is fairly sophisticated and well-thought-out, compared to the crude solid-axle truck underpinnings found on most SUVs.

I have done some VERY spirited driving on twisty roads, and hard cornering in my '88 Vanagon, and never once had less than 4 wheels on the ground, at least as far as I can tell. They were called "The sports car of vans" when they came out.
