What you need to find when looking for a proper tire is the load index on the tire. You really don't need to know the weight of the vehicle for this. The load index is found after the size on the tire. E.g.: 205/70R14 97Q Here, you got the width (205), the height (70% of width), R for radial, 14" rim, 97 is the load index and Q is the speed index.

What you should worry about, is getting tires that match or exceed 97 in the load index. This is what is required for a Vehicle with the total weight, such as the Vanagon or Eurovan.
