Ric,
No need to run the stove that long. Generally you'd only need to turn it
on if you had not used the propane for some time, or had run out. This
can allow air into the lines, and 30 seconds would be plenty to purge
the air.
Also, remember to pump first, then hit the gas button and immediately
start the sparks. If you let the gas run too long before sparking, you
get the little explosion, often with no flame.
Anyway, congrats on a cool fridge!
