David, I run a new instrument cluster in my '84DL. These recent clusters with speedometers in km/hr use a different wiring sequence on the 14-pin connector (back of cluster) than do at least '84 and earlier Vanagons. I got wiring sequence from list (try archives). It wasn't hard to rewire connector; however, I still do not know for sure if my oil pressure light would light if I had low oil pressure when engine was at greater than 2000 rpm. I have no problem with km/hr speedometer as I am use to working in both metric as well as English units.

> Recently picked up my new (1982) Westy and the previous owner was kind enough to supply a euro intrument cluster with tachometer (thanks, David). My question is HOW DO I INSTALL IT??? > > There is an electrical connector on the back, but I have no idea if it matches the one in there now (wouldn't expect it to). I am electrically inclinded, but would like to hear from anyone who has done this so that I don't reinvent the wheel. > > Also, does anyone know if there would be a problem using the km spedometer. The odometer in mine is busted and I considered just using the apprantly new spedometer in the cluster since I don't mind converting the km to miles in my head. The question is, however, was the km spedometer meant for different ratios, i.e. when it reads 100km/hr in my US 82 is that really 100km/hr. > > Thanks in advance for your help! > > David
