Michael asked, in reference to a belt failure in a Vanagon: This question will show my aircooled ignorance, but how do the non-water engines stay cool in such conditions? Seems like even with circulating water and lots of fans, things can get touchy... man, without water or fans, that has to be a real heck of a time... They manage quite easily, but the heater stops working and you may need a jump-start :-) Seriously, the fan is mounted directly to the back end (back of vehicle) of the crankshaft. The belt drives the alternator and the blower for the heater (yes, it's mechanically driven). Rusty J. '80 Westy -- the Vanagon Valdiz (Ok, I'll get to those pushrod seals NEXT weekend!) |
