Since then, a very stringent new road test has been introduced (the NCT) and has resulted in a lot of 10+ years vehicles failing & being sent on to the scrapper. My own imported US Vanagon will have to go through this in a few weeks. The weather doesn't help, either. There are very few Type-2 Bay Window buses on the roads these days. 8-( There were quite a few about in the '70s & I grew up sitting on the 'hump' in the back of air-cooled panel vans. Now, there are tons of late-model vans - probably more than any other panel van on the road, including Ford Transits. VW Sharan MPVs are unheard of ....
