Several people have challenged me to the fact that their non-Westys had a gas cap that was operated by the ignition key. After checking my literature, I can find no reference to that fact, but I would be foolish to say that VW might not have made a mid-production change allowing for a cap that was operated by the ignition key. It certainly is possible, but I have never seen one. I'll ammend my post of last week trying to clarify the key and lock situation by saying that some caps do use the ignition key. The glove box keyway is still a separate key, though it may be possible to substitute a Rabbit or Audi glove box lock and key it to match the ignition key. I haven't tried that, but it appears possible from first evaluation. I have posted in another posting about the two versions of the water tank key to clarify that situation.
