I'm with Adam: 250 miles is not far enough: I like to do my 200 mile rest
breaks some where other than the gas station: I like stream crossings or
such like places. I would truly like to get 500 miles on a fill up.

I recall the same. Something to do with having to modify the front tranny
mount to lower the tranny nose 1.5" or something to that effect. But heck,
if you REALLY hate to stop for gas...
Personally, I find the 220-250 mile range perfect for rest stops and
stretch breaks. My Jetta TD goes 450-500, but I wasn't issued a 7.5 hour
bladder.

I seem to recall a recent post by Mark Drillock on this subject, and from
his post it sounded like a MAJOR undertaking to mount a Syncro tank in a
2wd. Something about the height of the engine and transmission, etc.

It is possible (with some shade-tree engineering) to mount the syncro tank
into the 2wd body. Further, there are after-market tank co.'s that make box
tanks that fit under you van floor. You could conceivably use un-used space
in the interior of the van for a LARGE tank, and drive cross the USA
non-stop. Maybe.

Has anyone adapted their fuel tank(s) so that you hold more than the
standard tank? I am getting about 250 a tank, and that just is not far
enough. Any help is appreciated.
