Subject: Unidentified Noise (the epilogue)

Hello to all,

For the benefit of the archives I thought I should post the solution to a problem I posted about a while back and only recently, finally discovered, and fixed the true cause.

The problem was my van going "whoomp" when I stopped after a reasonable length run.I traced the noise to the fuel tank and then figured that the breather tube back to the tank was possiblly blocked. But it wasn't...Hmmmm.

Unca Joel replied to my post with the suggestion it may be the charcoal cannister that was blocked. That made sense so I removed said cannister but it was fine too. This was getting annoying.Where else could it be?

Then I noticed a small purple coloured tube running from the top of the cannister up towards the engine. No idea what it was but I followed it and found it connected to the throttle body, just under where the accelerator cable connects in the engine bay. Well it was blocked solid with carbon, presumably from the cannister.I reamed it out with a stiff wire and blew it out with compressed air, reconnected it all and viola!..the symptoms went away.Simple as that (when you know...:)

So,no more whoomps or whooshes when I take off the fuel cap and no more paranoia about splitting the tank, which was always in the back of my mind.

Perhaps this will help someone else sometime....
