Hi Paul,

I've had a similar problem with my 87 GL. I went to 3 broken belts in 4 weeks. Eventually, I tracked the problem down, not due to a tight belt but a loose one.

After installing the new belt, I verified the tension and went on my merry way. What I didn't know is that after a day or so, the belt would become just loose enough for a very slight slip which was causing undue wear.

Solution: Install new belt. Drive one or two days. Retightened belt. No more premature wear.
