I had a similar problem once. The filler auto shutoff valve was
stuck and the tank would not take any propane at the filling station.
But no propane at stove either. Try opening the little relief valve
to the right of the filler valve, on my 85 it is about half inch
diameter knob facing the rear. If there is propane in the tank, it
will come out here. If nothing comes out, then the tank is empty.
Again, on my 85, there is a rubber cover over a auto-shutoff valve,
the rubber faces forward, above the filler valve.
As I remember it from a nice propane service tech near Maryville, TN,
kind of a skinny King of the Hill. If there is propane in the tank,
the pressure will keep the shutoff valve toward the left (front),
when the pressure drops, the valve slides to the right (rear). My
problem was that it was stuck left and I could not fill my tank, even
though it was empty. It later jogged loose and I filled her up and
am living happily ever after, so far...
The propane pros on the list may correct and/or add to my info.
