There are other options: 1. Just bend about 1/8 inch of coat hanger at a 90 degree angle... with a little fishing you will find the right position to turn this and it will open the lock. 2. I'm pretty sure you can buy one of the keys from the list vendors at a nominal cost... I'm pretty sure they are all the same key.... at least for certain years.... and certainly not different for each and every Vanagon.
