This seems unlikely but it is Mark, the POL spud on the regulator has a so-called "excess-flow" device (if not it's highly illegal) that shuts off if the flow is too high. That's one reason why using a BBQ-type regulator is so bad, because it's unlikely that the POL fitting will be correct. So anything downstream of that fitting that causes uncontrolled venting will be quickly shut off.
