OK folks I was up in NYC for the big bike event last weekend. I winged it with the Westy and found the ultimate stealth camping spot. On the Staten Island end of the ferry, there is a lot for parking. West of the terminal. It's 5.50 per day. You can pay for more than one day and they do not tow (or says the lot attendant). I pulled in on Sat at 5pm, paid 2 days and took the ferry into the city. returned to the van at 2am, popped the top and went to sleep. Now, in my opinion, popping the top pretty much tells the world (and 24h attendant) that well, you're now calling it home for the night. Here's the best part: They're redoing 1/2 the lot so they allow you to parallel park on the access road along the water. I was parked 15 feet from the water so that when I opened the Huey hatch, I could see Manhattan, The statue, Ellis Island and Jersey. Quite the site to wake up to! Seems to be relatively safe too because it's far enough away from the residential areas that there are no random passers-by. I did, however, borrow a "club" and remove my 15" Mercedes styles hubcaps before I arrived.

Anyone, I vaguely recall someone on the List mentioning a camping place conveniently located near a tunnel which leads to NYC. I think it was near Hoboken but I'm not sure. Can anyone on the List shed some light on my dim memory? Thanks in advance. Larry
