Subject: Atlanta to Austin Update!!!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Good news! Gretchen and I arrived safe and sound here in Austin!!! 1000 miles. I saw only one other Vanagon on my way. We both waved, but I would have loved to have found out what he thought about how full she was. I had no problems even though she became a low rider due to all of the weight.

Before I moved I did make my FL road trip. 1700 miles in nine days. What a great feeling to have my vehicle stay on the road for so many miles with no problems. (I think that this is a first for me and her) I did get to work on her yesterday and found 5 out of 6 CV joint bolts on the driver's side outer CV joint loose. I tightened them and hope that they do not loosen again. I had the joints on that side replaced about 3 months ago. I also found one of my vacum hoses had broken at the plastic reducer. This is near the airflow meter, but I am not sure what the parts are that they go to. They are bolted to the firewall and have a Y hose coming off to the reducer and then to the larger hose. I do know that I have two because the other one had broke a couple of months ago. Being the clever guy that I am (hold your laughter back) I stuck the smaller hose into the larger one and put a clamp on it.

I am looking for some VW clubs here if anyone has some info I would be grateful.

Also, if you see me driving around looking kind of lost say hi. I have a huge roof rack on and a ton of stickers.

Keep on truckin' Dominick

I am making a move on 3 May 2000 from Atlanta to Austin. I have purchased a 12 X 5 roof rack to go on top which should be here from CA on 1 May 2000 (thanks to the List for their help and leads on this). My goal is to only take whatever I can put inside and on top. I have sold my furniture and have been packing at night. Before I make this journey, I am leaving this Saturday for a nine day road trip to six cities in FL (where I am from) to visit family and friends. I'll be back for two days and then I am off to TX.

My question is (since I have seen people asking the same type of questions) are there any good shops and/or mechanics between the two cities or any members that I can call if I have any major problems. Any input would be great.

Also, if anyone is just looking for an excuse for a road trip, the more the merrier!!!! :o)

Thanks
