I have an 85 Westy, this is what mine looks like: The letters are
from the book and represent knobs/buttons:
from left to right: A B C D E
A is the pump and igniter you will hear a loud click when it goes in
all the way, this is the spark.
B is the safety valve, Hold in while lighting, when warm, let up.
There is thermocouple in the flame that will shut off the gas when
the flame goes out. This button over rides the shutoff until the
flame is lit.
C is the thermostat, turn to max for gas operation.
D is selector switch, AC, DC, or LP
E is Gas valve. I is on, O is off. This controls the gas to the
fridge burner.

I opened the burner chamber and lit the jet with a match to see if it
was me or was the thing broken. It burns fine with it open. If it
won't light here, then there is no gas getting to the jet. Also be
sure the copper thermocouple is close to where the flame is.

I would say if it works on AC, it is ok.

no noise, but the bottom LED on the control panel, below the water
indicators is on when the flame is lit, I think it is connected to
the thermocouple and when it is open, the LED is on. I have trouble
seeing it, I have to cup my hand around it if it is bright day light.
Keep trying, I had a fit when I first got mine too, and have pulled
the thing out several times thinking it is plugged, but each time all
was well and it lit. It is a pleasure to have it working when
camping. Keeps those brewskys cool enough for me. Not to mention
mayo and baloney! Although I usually carry a cooler with ice as
well, keep most canned drinks in there and use the ice for other
drinks.
