I had something similar happen to me with my '87. I used to actually get the oil pressure to come back by 'cleaning' the inside of the engine with some 'motor flush' stuff that I picked up at the FLAPS. I don't normally drive 70 mph, so I would be able to use the van for a while, (thinking that I fixed the problem) but as soon as I got on the turnpike and did 70 for about 20 minutes, the buzzer of death would come on because more crud would be loosened inside the engine and picked up, blocking the screen. When I finally gave up and tore the engine down, the oil pickup screen was blocked up solid with hard crud that I think was caused by me not changing oil enough and also switching between synthetic and dino oil a couple of times.

Hopefully your problem will be simpler. If only it was easer to get to that oil pickup!
