Subject: One more thing: Windshield Wiper Question
Comments: To: Malcolm Stebbins <Malcolm.Stebbins@MSVU.CA>

Malcolm is right on the money. No need to remove the dash, or rip the van apart.

Follow MS's procedure, but while you have the wiper arm off the little cone shaped wiper-driver post, clean the teeth of the post with a sharp object, like a sewing needle or safety pin. You will find the teeth full of the pot metal of the wiper arm, and if you don't clean out the teeth, your wiper arm will get loose again, and come out of position.

Consider lubing the mechanism with white lithium spray grease. Check the archives for the procedure, post by this writer within the last 7 days.

Cheers,

You're close: From the outside, take off the plastic cap at the pivot post of the wiper arm, unscrew the nut, Now you have to wiggle and maybe pry (put a piece of wood against the van) the wiper off, it may be a bit difficult. Then take the wiper arm off, and put it back on in the "correct" position and test before you screw the nut back on. NO NOT pivot the wiper while it is on the post as you will wear off the teeth. The nut has to go on quite snugly as it is mainly friction that holds the arm on,put the plastic cap back on. IMHO you do not have to go up under the dash to re-position the wipers. Malcolm
