Subject: Coolant expansion tank refill?
Content-Type: text/plain

This morning I experienced the infamous 'blinking coolant light.' Inspection of the coolant level in the overflow tank and expansion tank explained the problem. The overflow tank was almost dry and the expansion tank was low. I had to get to work, so I added coolant to the overflow tank, kept an eye on the needle and drove on. At work I checked the expansion tank and noticed it was still low and had not siphoned and coolant from the overflow tank. So, I guess I need a new cap?

Before I head home I need to add coolant to the expansion tank. After searching the archives, I cannot find a definitive answer.

Is it possible to add coolant to the expansion tank without introducing air to the cooling system. My plan was to let the van completely cool, then open the expansion tank and top it off. Is this the proper method?
