Tim, Since the model driven by Per is putting out 112hp stock, the 130 Subaru is not going to stress the overdesigned drive train of the Vanagon. The Legacy is a proven conversion, engineered by a guy that's been in the VW drivetrain business for thirty-two years.

I've converted two campers, a '78 and an '80, to Buick V6 power, both engines making about 150hp. Both trans had over 150k miles when converted, and both have more than 30k since. Neither has had any transaxle/CV joint problems to date. It's nice to be able to keep up with traffic.
