Redline is the maximum allowed RPM for your engine...sorry <g> -- Redline is a manufacturer of synthetic lubricants, including gear oils that are very successful in Vanagon gearboxes. The two that people use are called MT-90 and MTL. Strictly speaking MT-90 is the correct one to agree with VW spec, but some people use MTL which provides easier shifting. Both give smoother and easier shifting than what is probably in your transmission now. Unlike regular gear oils which smell terrible, Redline has very little odor.
