Subject: 'Boxer Rebellion' revisited (Tii content).

I too have just received my Tii inline SA kit this week. My first impression was that the shipping box/crate was built to get the contents to the destination. Being that it was not a sealed container I was a bit dismayed when I took the cover off to find quite a bit of surface corrosion on many of the components. The cast iron block had many unpainted surfaces and a lot of the aluminum pieces are covered with 'salt crystals'. Also, a lot of the hardware (bolts, nuts, cap screws, etc.) are unplated and rusty. Since I am an anal aircraft mechanic, this is very frustrating, as it will add extra time and money to this project to make it 'air-worthy' (rust never sleeps).

My second impression is that I CAN make this kit work. It may take some extra time to get any bugs sorted out, but since I bought this bus as a five year restoration project about seven months ago, this kit puts me way ahead of my projected curve. So, other than the corrosion problem, the kit appears to be sound and complete.

Thank you Michael Modl for your very informative posting of what you found while trying to sort out the Synchro/Tii electrics. I also would very much like to find a wiring schematic pertaining to these 'new' SA ECU's. By the way, my kit also came with a knock sensor installed on the block and the wiring harness to plug into it (as Ken mentioned in his post). The Bosch ECU # on the model I received is RSU 906 258A (2.0). If there is any way to wire in an O2 sensor I would certainly like to try it. I will post any info that I turn up. I've just turned up the Bentley manual for the '85 to '92 Golf/Jetta so maybe I can glean something there.

More to come. I'm now taking my computer down to change modems (one of my favorite things to do). If all goes well I'll be back online tonight on a DSL line (SPEED THRILLS).

Arlen
