Here I most respectfully disagree with Mr. Bulley. The system is designed to work this way, and it is approved by relevant safety authorities for this use. The gas system has precisely the same auto-shutoff as a furnace or water heater or range oven -- if the flame goes out, the gas shuts off in a very few seconds. The flame is encased in a strong steel box. Larger units of this type have freezers -- do you suppose that every time the big RV folks start and stop that they shift back and forth from LP to DC? The units run continuously like any household fridge, and I'm morally certain that they do a great deal of it on LP. I think that once you've accepted the risk of carrying the propane around you needn't worry about operating the fridge.

Them's my thoughts. david
