Having an auxiliary battery takes care of that for me... I can stop even 2 or 3 hours and not worry about switching the fridge from 12 v to propane.

You are apparently one of the lucy ones that does not experience your propane flame blowing out on the highway... now that's a major PITA... getting to your destination and finding the food all warm!!!

Also, the way I use the fridge... camped in one remote spot for two weeks or more... it is crutial to conserve the propane... using 12 volt on the road is an excellent opportunity to do so.
