Follow up report... It will cost WAY too much to rebuild and that appears the only option if we are to keep the minivan, so I just informed "she who must be obeyed" that we were going car shopping tonight. She replied, "Can we look at the new VW Beetle?" She is well trained. (^_^)

Thanks for everyone's responses -- both on- and off-list -- you've made my decision easier. I knew I came to the right place for help. My next post might be a request for financial assistance. Stay tuned... <g>

P.S. I wrote this yesterday and sent it to myself -- not the list. Duhh! Wife found the vehicle of her dreams, a '99 Toyota PreRunner pickup truck. Surprised the heck outa me! Not my idea -- really. Of course, I'm not complaining...
