Subject:      T4 Diesel Conversion
Content-Type: multipart/alternative;

Being new to the list, I'm sure this has been disscussed previously, but has anybody any info regarding converting my (81) T4 2.0L Petrol Camper to run on Diesel.

I have investigated the 1.6 non & turbo options & have been told that the engine struggles to push the bus. I have also been told that the VW 1.9 "umwelt" & turbo versions aren't much better.

A breaker of all things VW & Audi came up with a suggestion to graft a Pugeot/Citreon 1.9L turbo diesel onto the existing transmission via a stator plate. I know these engines are tough & torquey, some taxi drivers report 1/4 m miles without a rebuild. There may be other possible options available in the form of Nissan & Toyota Diesel.

Having said all of this, I'm sure that some of the vanagon subscribers know better.

Thanks in advance for any info.
