Frank, As far as I remember all the previous cautionary hub bub was regarding using a cheap plastic gas 'can' inside the spare tire that would slide around and was subject to either puncture or abrasion or poping open due to internal pressures... a very bad situation right near the radiator fan.

Your can seems like a much better bet.
